The Lord's Prayer

The Lord's Prayer (sometimes known by its first two Latin words as the Pater Noster, in Greek as the Πάτερ ἡμῶν, or the English equivalent Our Father) is probably the best-known prayer in Christianity.

According to the New Testament, the prayer was given by Jesus of Nazareth as a response to a request from the Apostles for guidance on how to pray. The prayer is excerpted from the book of Matthew (6:9-13), where it appears as part of the Sermon on the Mount

The text of the Lord's Prayer

Our Father
Who art in Heaven,
hallowed be Thy Name;
Thy kingdom come;
Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

Amen.
